The Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan, that Iran will take 'immediate reciprocal measures' if the United States resumes its commitments from the memorandum of understanding signed in June, which aimed to end the conflict between the two countries. The memorandum was designed to put an end to the war that began in February, but it failed in July due to the resumption of hostilities.

Pezeshkian emphasized that the return of the US to the assumed commitments is essential for restoring dialogue. Additionally, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called for the US to respect the agreement, stressing that this could facilitate the resumption of negotiations. The context of tensions remains complicated, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, where recent exchanges of fire between Iran and the US have intensified.
