An anonymous source declared on Friday to the Iranian news agency Fars that Tehran rejected a proposal from the United States for a 48-hour ceasefire, according to Reuters and The Guardian. The proposal was transmitted on Wednesday through an unidentified channel, without an immediate reaction from the US. The information comes in the context where the Wall Street Journal reported that mediation efforts led by countries in the region, including Pakistan, have reached an impasse. Iran has informed mediators that it is not willing to meet with US officials in Islamabad and considers US demands unacceptable. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, emphasized that Tehran would only accept a permanent and comprehensive cessation of hostilities, not a temporary ceasefire, and called for compensation for damages caused. He also mentioned that distrust between Iran and the US is at a minimum level, and some of Washington's demands are considered excessive.
