In Budapest, German experts are trying to identify two German soldiers whose remains were found next to a motorcycle from World War II, in the dried-up bed of the Danube.
This discovery became an international sensation after it was revealed that under the motorcycle were the remains of two soldiers. The identification plates show that one served in the Wehrmacht, while the other in the Waffen-SS. Investigators are looking into the circumstances of their deaths, considering that the intact plates suggest that their families have been waiting in vain for an official notification of death.
Experts from the German War Graves Commission emphasize that the mere presence of the plates does not guarantee identification, and the location where they were found provides important clues. The remains will be buried in October at the Budaros war cemetery, and final identification will require confirmation from the German Federal Archives.
The process of identifying missing soldiers from World War II is complex, with millions of soldiers still unidentified.
