The German judiciary announced on Tuesday the closure of the criminal investigation against a 38-year-old Romanian and a 55-year-old Greek, accused of attempted sabotage of the German navy ships in the port of Hamburg in 2025, due to lack of evidence. The two men were released in March, a month after their arrest.

The Hamburg prosecutor's office closed the case at the beginning of August, emphasizing that the facts could not be proven with the necessary degree of certainty. The suspects were accused of sabotaging corvettes by introducing abrasive sand into engines and perforating water pipes.

The identity of those who orchestrated the sabotage attempts remains unknown, and the German Military Counterintelligence Service has accused Russia of espionage activities. Germany has recently adopted stricter measures against disposable agents involved in sabotage.
