Khalil al-Hayya, the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, stated that the organization has a "legitimate right" to be armed, emphasizing that any proposal for the next stages of the ceasefire must respect this right. He asserted that the resistance and weapons of Hamas are guaranteed by international law and are essential for the creation of a Palestinian state. The ceasefire, which came into effect on October 10, was imposed under pressure from the United States and led to the partial withdrawal of Israeli troops and exchanges of hostages. Despite this ceasefire, Israel reiterated that Hamas will need to be disarmed. Al-Hayya also confirmed the killing of the group's weapons production chief, Raed Saad, following an Israeli strike, highlighting the suffering of the Palestinian people as a result of the conflict.
