The authorities in Greece have installed floating barriers in coastal areas to reduce the presence of a rabbitfish, which has spread in the Mediterranean Sea due to rising water temperatures.

The system was installed in the Northern Euboea Gulf, in the area of the city of Chalkida, located about 130 kilometers north of Athens. Local authorities state that this is the first measure of its kind implemented in Greece, according to The Guardian publication.

Additionally, other municipalities in the area have begun to adopt similar solutions, in the context of the proliferation of rabbitfish in the Mediterranean Sea, caused by climate change. Authorities in Cyprus and Greece are offering rewards for catching them, in an attempt to control the population of the invasive species.
