The Greek authorities, on Sunday, deployed a Patriot air defense battery on the island of Crete, near the Souda military base, to strengthen defense against possible Iranian attacks on American military equipment in the eastern Mediterranean. The battery was moved from the island of Karpathos and is part of a strategy to enhance security, considering recent information that Iran may target American interests in Europe.
Crete, the largest island of Greece, has strategic importance, having military facilities used by the Greek army and NATO allies, including the United States, in Souda Bay. Additionally, Greece is collaborating with the US and Israel to assess Iranian threats and is prepared to provide assistance to Bulgaria in the event that it requests support for air defense.
