The largest parliamentary formation in Bulgaria, GERB-SDS, rejected on Monday the proposal of President Rumen Radev to attempt to form a new government, significantly increasing the likelihood of early elections. The coalition government led by Prime Minister Rosen Jeliazkov, supported by GERB-SDS, resigned last month following massive protests against corruption and a controversial budget.
President Radev tasked Jeliazkov with forming a new coalition, but he argued that he does not have sufficient parliamentary support. Radev is expected to offer the next mandate to the reformists from PP-DB, but they too might reject the offer, which would lead to the dissolution of parliament and the organization of early elections.
