Nicușor Dan’s appeal, one day before the vote in Parliament on the Mureșan government: “It is time for the parties to look beyond the party fence”

President Nicușor Dan rejected the prospect of early elections on Tuesday, September 29, one day before the decisive vote in Parliament on the investiture of the government proposed by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan. The head of state argues that returning to the polls would not resolve the political deadlock, but would prolong instability and increase the distrust of the population and financial markets.

“Early elections are not a solution. On the contrary, they would be a continuation of the instability and distrust of both Romanian citizens and financial markets,” Nicușor Dan declared.

The president added that Romania “will maintain its financial trajectory,” regardless of the outcome of the vote, as there is political consensus on this matter.

The statement was made one day before the vote on the investiture of the Mureșan Government. It is scheduled for Wednesday, at 1 p.m. The designated prime minister and the proposed cabinet need at least 233 votes to obtain Parliament’s confidence.

Siegfried Mureșan said on Tuesday that, at present, he has between “170 and 233 votes.”

We remind you that on Tuesday, hearings in the committees of Parliament’s specialized committees continue for the ministers proposed by Siegfried Mureșan for the future Executive, in an attempt to obtain the votes needed in Parliament.
