Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan responds to President Nicușor Dan and argues that Romania needs to quickly end the political crisis by voting on the proposed Government. The reaction comes after the head of state said that snap elections are not a solution.
Mureșan says that snap elections are not desirable, but neither does prolonging a crisis out of fear of them provide stability for citizens or investor confidence. He says that, if the previous designations had been made on time and rejected by Parliament, snap elections could have already taken place, and Romania would now have a government with a four-year mandate. “We have lost valuable time,” the designated prime minister said.
Mureșan argues that the PNL, USR, and UDMR have jointly taken responsibility for governing, while accusing the PSD of putting party interests before the national interest and refusing to contribute to resolving the crisis.
Regarding fiscal and budgetary discipline, he says that it cannot be guaranteed through statements alone. Mureșan warns of the risk of repeating policies that brought the deficit to 9% and says that the Government he proposed and the parties supporting it can guarantee fiscal responsibility.
