A Russian major general, decorated just two weeks ago, was killed in Ukraine

Russian Major General Anton Grunis died on September 12 after a drone struck a deployment base in the Donetsk region, according to information published by ASTRA. The death of the 48-year-old officer was made public on September 14 by the Suvorov Brotherhood Telegram channel.

Grunis had commanded the 4th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade and recently claimed that Russian troops had captured the city of Kostiantynivka. On August 27, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov awarded him the “Gold Star of the Hero of Russia” for the courage and heroism he demonstrated while carrying out military missions.

At the beginning of July, Russian state media reported that Grunis had personally informed Vladimir Putin about taking control of the settlement. Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov later announced that the city was under full control, but fighting was continuing, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. Ukraine denied the claims, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered to meet Putin in Kostiantynivka to verify them.
