A 5-year-old Romanian boy died at a hospital in Arizona after being found unconscious in the family car outside the home in the city of Peoria on Sunday, September 13. The child's parents, Anca and Mihail Sabo, were arrested and charged with negligent homicide and child abuse.
The family returned home around 1:00 p.m. after attending a child's christening, and then the parents organized a party attended by approximately 50 people. According to police, the boy remained in the vehicle, and the family only noticed that he was missing after approximately three hours. His mother found him unconscious in the car at around 3:56 p.m.
Relatives began resuscitation before emergency crews arrived, but the child later died at the hospital. Prosecutors and the family's attorney maintain that there may have been confusion between the parents and their 14-year-old son over who was supposed to get the child out of the car. The teenager said he did not remember receiving this request.
The defense maintains that it was an accident and emphasizes that the mother called 911 and cooperated with investigators. A judge set bail at $150,000 for each parent. The investigation continues.
