Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been re-arrested after the Seoul Central Court granted the special prosecutor's request, fearing the destruction of evidence in an investigation into the temporary imposition of martial law. Although he was previously released, new charges of rebellion, abuse of office and falsifying documents led to his re-incarceration. Yoon, who was dismissed in April, will remain in detention for 20 days, which could be extended if he is charged. Serious charges can carry severe penalties, including life imprisonment.
