Federica Mogherini, former head of EU diplomacy, has resigned from her position as rector of the College of Europe following searches related to an investigation for fraud.

Federica Mogherini, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy and Rector of the College of Europe since 2020, resigned shortly after the Belgian police conducted searches as part of a fraud investigation. In a statement, Mogherini emphasized that she acted with rigor and integrity in fulfilling her duties.

The investigation targets suspicions of corruption related to the establishment of a training academy for young diplomats, a program led by her. Additionally, Stefano Sannino, a senior diplomat of the European Union, resigned from his position in the European Commission following these events.
