A left-wing extremist group, known as 'Vulkan', has claimed responsibility for the fire of a cable bridge over the Teltow canal, which led to one of the most severe power outages in Berlin, affecting approximately 45,000 households. The incident was described by the group as a 'successful diversion' and an 'act of self-defense' in support of those who defend the Earth. Authorities have confirmed the authenticity of the message sent by the group to the police.
The fire severely damaged the cable network, and power supply has been partially restored for 7,000 households, but outages could continue until January 8. Senator Franziska Giffi stated that the attack caused significant damage to high and medium voltage cables. An investigation is underway, and authorities are treating the incident as an act of sabotage, raising serious questions about the security of critical infrastructure in Germany.
