On Sunday, the Northern Ireland Police Service announced an explosion caused by a car bomb in front of a police station in Dunmurry, an incident that led to the evacuation of nearby homes. Sorcha Eastwood, a member of the UK Parliament, described the event as painful and disturbing, emphasizing that, fortunately, there were no casualties.
The police did not provide details about the motives for the attack, but mentioned that last month there was a similar attempted attack on another police station in Lurgan, where a device was placed in a delivery vehicle under the threat of a weapon. Authorities suspect that dissident republican groups are responsible for these attacks, which represent an attempt to instill fear and maintain their relevance, in the context of the Good Friday Agreement of 1998, which ended the majority of violence in the region.
