Europe is facing a heatwave, with record temperatures for May, reaching values up to 16 degrees Celsius above climatological norms. Meteorologists from Severe Weather Europe describe the phenomenon as an "extremely abnormal and strong heat dome," which traps hot air above the continent. Southern regions, including Portugal, Spain, and France, are experiencing highs of up to 38 degrees Celsius, while northern countries like Germany and the United Kingdom exceed 30 degrees Celsius. In Romania, temperatures are expected to rise above 30 degrees, but the weather will cool significantly in the coming days. Meteorologists emphasize that this atmospheric pattern limits cloud formation and air circulation, increasing the risk of wildfires. Studies show that heat domes have significantly increased since the 1950s due to climate change. Extreme phenomena, such as heatwaves, are becoming increasingly frequent, and European summers are longer and more intense.
