In June, the average temperature in Western Europe reached a record of 20.74°C, exceeding the average from the period 1991-2020 by more than 3°C, according to the monthly report from Copernicus.

Samantha Burgess, strategic manager for climate issues at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), emphasized that climate change has become a disturbing reality, and Europe is warming much faster than the global average. Changes in atmospheric circulation are identified as a main cause of this phenomenon. Burgess warned that heatwaves will become more intense and more frequent in the future, requiring the achievement of net zero greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible.

The report also highlighted that global temperatures have exceeded the estimated average of the pre-industrial era by 1.39°C, making June the second warmest month ever recorded, both globally and in Europe.
