The President of the United States, Donald Trump, will make a visit to Japan at the end of October, before the APEC summit scheduled for October 31 and November 1. This will be his first trip to the region since returning to power in January, during a period of political uncertainty in Japan. Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, confirmed that Trump will also travel to South Korea for the APEC summit, where he will meet with regional leaders. Additionally, Trump will participate in the ASEAN summit between October 26 and 28 in Malaysia, where a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia will be signed. This visit comes amid rising trade tensions between China and the U.S., with Trump threatening additional tariffs on Chinese products. A meeting between Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping is also expected at the APEC summit, although Trump has recently expressed dissatisfaction with China's trade policies.
