Hakan Fidan, Turkey's foreign minister, stated to Bloomberg that the President of the USA, Donald Trump, will participate in the NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8, 2026, in Ankara. This information was confirmed following phone discussions between Trump and Turkey's President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which took place last month.
Trump's presence at the summit could exert pressure on NATO members to increase defense spending, a long-standing issue for the USA. The summit will take place at the Presidential Complex in Beştepe, Ankara, and will be chaired by the new NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte.
This is the 36th official summit of the Alliance and the second time Turkey hosts such an event, following the one in 2004. The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, will also participate in the summit, representing Romania and presenting the position of the B9 member states.
