Bulgaria will build a dam on the Danube to support the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant.

Iva Petrova, the Bulgarian Minister of Energy, stated that a dam will be built on the Danube, near the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, to support its operation.

The dam is estimated to be between 250 and 300 meters long, and the construction work is scheduled to last between 10 and 15 days. The design is currently underway, and alternative options, such as transferring water from internal reservoirs, are being evaluated.

Currently, the water level of the Danube has slightly increased, allowing the plant to operate Unit 5 at 91.4% capacity. However, the situation remains dynamic, with the Danube at extremely low levels, which has led to a reduction in the production of Unit 5 by 120 MW, a first in the 52 years of operation of the plant.

Bulgaria consumes approximately 90,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per day, producing 130,000 and exporting 31,000.
