The Italian police announced the discovery of a group of ten resident doctors from Careggi Hospital in Florence, accused of falsifying waiting lists to reduce their workload during the summer. The investigation, carried out by the Carabinieri, revealed that in July and August 2023, these doctors conspired to register fictitious appointments for the same patient, without their knowledge.

This action led to blocking other patients who were trying to make appointments, as the online booking portal indicated a fully booked schedule. This method allowed the doctors to avoid at least 290 appointments, thus having easier working days. The Florence prosecutor's office has initiated legal actions against them, and the trial is scheduled to begin on February 19.
