The organization Doctors Without Borders reported that Darfur is facing the worst cholera epidemic in years, with 40 deaths and more than 2,300 patients treated. The civil war has compromised access to medical care, and the lack of clean water and poor sanitation is worsening the situation. In Tawila, people survive on just three liters of water a day and children are exposed to health risks. Nearly 25 million Sudanese are food insecure and cholera is spreading rapidly among the conflict-affected population.
