With 894 confirmed cases, the current epidemic is three times more severe than a previous outbreak in Uganda in 2000. The rare Bundibugyo virus, which has no approved vaccines or treatments, is responsible for this outbreak. Most cases are concentrated in Ituri province in Congo, which accounts for over 90% of the total. Although over 900 million dollars have been promised to combat the epidemic, only 90 million have been released. The difficulties in contact tracing are amplified by the conflict in the area and population mobility, making epidemic control a major challenge. Africa CDC estimates that 540 staff are needed to manage the situation, but currently, they only have 84.
