The Senate votes on Tuesday, September 8, to eliminate the separate high school entrance examination, during the session that begins at 4:00 p.m. The final vote is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. If the bill is adopted, the law will be sent to the president for promulgation.

The measure directly concerns students who are currently in the eighth grade. If the law is adopted and promulgated, they would take part in the admission process in the summer of 2027 solely on the basis of the results obtained in the National Assessment.

The Committee for Education, Science and Innovation unanimously approved, on September 2, the report that eliminates the examination organized separately by certain high schools. Representatives of PSD, AUR, POT, and USR announced that they would support the bill in plenary.

The pre-university education law allowed high schools to organize, after the National Assessment, their own examination for no more than 50% of the places in the ninth grade. Students would thus have had to take two admission tests, while for the remaining places selection would have been based on the grade from the National Assessment.

The provision entered into force on September 1, 2026, and was due to be applied for the first time in 2027. The Ministry of Education had already prepared the necessary documents, but following the amendment of the law it will have to adapt the admission methodology.
