The Senate adopted, with 104 votes in favor and one abstention, a bill amending the Pre-University Education Law that provides for school scholarships to be awarded during school holidays as well. The legislative proposal will be debated and voted on by the Chamber of Deputies, the decision-making body.
The new provision is introduced by supplementing Article 108 of Education Law No. 198/2023 with the stipulation that “school scholarships are also awarded during school holidays.” If the bill is adopted and promulgated, eligible students would receive scholarships during school holidays as well.
The bill also provides for the awarding of technological scholarships to students in technological and dual technological high school education. The situation regarding scholarships for ninth-grade students enrolled in the dual system had become unclear following the integration of vocational education into technological high schools. The law provided for technological scholarships for students in vocational education, without explicitly specifying the situation of those in the new high school structure.
The amendments were proposed by USR senators Ștefan Pălărie, Ruxandra Cibu Deaconu, and Cătălin Mîndru. To enter into force, the bill must pass the Chamber of Deputies and complete the promulgation and publication stages.
