Landmark ruling by the International Court of Justice allows states to sue each other for damages caused by climate change. Although the opinion is advisory, it could have significant legal implications. Vulnerable nations like the Pacific islands, which initiated the lawsuit, see it as a victory. The decision could make it easier to seek compensation from the world's biggest emitters, despite opposition from some developed countries that consider existing agreements sufficient.
