In the first half of 2025, Germany saw a drop of more than 40% in asylum applications, ranking third in the EU after Spain and France. Europe-wide, applications fell by 23%, with the majority of applicants coming from Venezuela, Afghanistan and Syria. The declines are attributed to stricter migration measures and cooperation with North African countries. The German interior minister considers the results a success of migration policies.
