The Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation of NATO, French Admiral Pierre Vandier, emphasized the need to accelerate military transformation within the North Atlantic Alliance to adapt to contemporary realities, dominated by artificial intelligence (AI). In an analysis published in the magazine Le Grand Continent, Vandier stated that indecisive organizations do not survive, and war has become a structural reality of the international system.
AI offers an exponential advantage to those who adapt quickly, while slow organizations risk disappearing. The Admiral highlighted that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has underscored the cost of the illusion of peace and emphasized that modern warfare transcends the military sphere, targeting critical infrastructure and social cohesion. Vandier stressed the importance of timing in contemporary conflicts and the ability to learn faster than the opponent, warning that NATO must quickly adapt to new technological challenges to maintain its effectiveness.
