More than half of Romanians expect Nicușor Dan to be a president more involved in public life, according to BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research conducted between May 26-30, 2025.

BAROMETER Informat.ro - INSCOP Research is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research commissioned by the news platform Informat.ro in partnership with the think-tank Strategic Thinking Group.

The Informat.ro - INSCOP ResearchBAROMETER aims to bring to public attention topics of interest to stimulate national conversations on various topics and public policies essential for Romania's present and future based on the opinion of Romanians in partnership with prestigious think tanks and academic institutions. It is an approach through which we aim to contribute to the consolidation of democracy through the use of scientific and credible tools that bring the voice of citizens to the forefront of public debate.

Methodology: Data was collected between May 26-30, 2025. Research method: questionnaire interview. Data were collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews), the simple stratified sample size was 1150 persons, representative by significant socio-demographic categories (sex, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 years and over. The maximum permissible error of the data is ± 2.9%, at a 95% confidence level.

Remus Ștefureac - Director INSCOP Research: "After a president who excelled in the conflict dimension and a president who excelled by absence, especially in his second term, Romanians want an involved and consensual president. The majority of Romanians (56.4%) believe that President Nicușor Dan will be more likely to be involved in public life, with expectations in this regard being stronger among PSD (77%), PNL (91%) and USR (92%) voters. In contrast, only 16% of AUR voters believe that Nicușor Dan will be an involved president, compared to 77% of this party's voters who believe he will be an absent president. Also, over 60% of Romanians believe that President Nicușor Dan will rather mediate, seek consensus. This opinion is shared by 85% of PSD voters, 94% of PNL voters and 97% of USR voters, in contrast to AUR voters who are of this opinion in only 20% of the voters. The perception of newly elected President Nicușor Dan's profile demonstrates the deep polarization of Romanian society on several criteria (in particular according to political sympathies and level of education)."

President involved vs. Absent president

56.4% of Romanians think that Nicușor Dan will be a rather involved president in public life, while 36.7% expect the former mayor of the capital to be a rather absent president in public life. 6.8% do not know or do not answer this question.

I think that Nicușor Dan will be a president rather involved in public life especially: PNL, USR and PSD voters, people over 60, those with higher education and urban dwellers. The opposite opinion is especially held by: AUR voters, people under 45, people with primary education, rural dwellers and Tik-Tok users.

Consensual president vs. conflictual president

61.7% of Romanians think that Nicușor Dan will be a president who will rather mediate, who will seek consensus. 28.3% think the new president will rather seek conflict. The share of non-answers is 9.9%.

I think that Nicușor Dan will be a president who will mediate, who will seek consensus, especially: PNL, USR and PSD voters, people over 60, people with higher education and urban dwellers, state employees. They are particularly against: AUR voters, people under 45, those with primary education, rural dwellers and Tik-Tok users.
