Health Minister, Alexandru Rogobete, said that in Romania, out of 60 emergency room visits, 50 patients are transferred to other hospitals, even though they could be treated in the same unit where they presented themselves. This is due to the lack of performance incentives in the medical system. Rogobete stressed that transfers are not justified for simple interventions, such as appendectomy, when the local unit has the necessary resources.
