The President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, rejected the appeal of Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever to normalize relations with Moscow in order to regain access to cheap Russian energy. This position contradicts the approach of the majority of European leaders, who support a firm policy against Russia in the context of the war in Ukraine. De Wever stated that it is time to recover access to cheap energy, mentioning that there are European leaders who share this opinion but do not express it publicly. Kallas, however, emphasized that she has not observed such interest in the meetings of European leaders and warned that a return to old relations with Russia could lead to more conflicts. She highlighted the importance of vigilance in relations with Moscow, stating that yielding to Russia's demands could lead to an escalation of aggression.
