TSMC, Taiwan's semiconductor giant, benefits from an exemption from President Trump's 100% tariffs on chips because of its status as a major exporter and its US factories. However, other Taiwanese manufacturers will feel the impact of these tariffs. Trump has accused Taiwan of hurting the US semiconductor industry and has announced protective measures. TSMC is investing 100 billion dollars in the US to build factories, which could affect the Taiwanese economy and the 'silicon shield' concept that protects Taiwan from China's threats.
