The Pro Infrastructura Association is calling for rail services between Cluj-Napoca and Poieni to begin in the new 2027 train timetable, after reconstruction and electrification work on the first two sections reached approximately 80% completion. The section is 63 kilometers long and could reopen nearly three years after the complete closure of the Cluj-Napoca–Oradea line in January 2024.
Association representatives say decisions and the completion of bureaucratic procedures by the Ministry of Transport and CFR are needed. The line remains interrupted between Bucea and Vadu Crișului, on section 3, but services on sections 1 and 2 could resume even while construction is ongoing, using one track at a time and diesel railcars.
Pro Infrastructura states that a full reopening requires the centralization and signaling systems to be operational, ensuring safe train movements. However, the association says trains can operate temporarily before all these systems are completed.
The obstacles mentioned include the lack of a revised environmental permit for the Brăișor wildlife overpass, the expropriations required for the connection to the Poieni traction substation, and the unresolved situation of track 1 and the Poieni station building. The works are financed through the NRRP.
