Road traffic could begin by the end of 2026 on 181 new kilometres of the Transylvania Motorway (A3), according to estimates by the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company. The opening depends on the progress of the works, weather conditions and the contractors’ mobilisation on the construction sites.
The most advanced sections are Nădășelu–Zimbor and Suplacu de Barcău–Chiribiș. On the 30.6-kilometre section between Nădășelu and Zimbor, UMB Spedition has reached a physical completion rate of 99.30%, with work focused on finishing works, guardrails, signs and parking areas. Connecting the segment depends on the completion of the Topa Mică and Nădășelu viaducts, where progress has reached 87.80%.
On the 26.35-kilometre Suplacu de Barcău–Chiribiș section, the physical completion rate stands at 95.39%. The contractor is installing guardrails, while the wearing course and road markings will be applied when weather conditions allow.
Once the targeted sections are completed, drivers could travel on 155 kilometres between Poarta Sălajului and Târgu Mureș, as well as on a further 26 kilometres towards Borș. The section including the Meseș Tunnel, between Nușfalău and Poarta Sălajului, is not expected to be completed until late 2031.
