Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Horațiu Cosma, announced that work on the Nădășelu–Zimbor section of the Transylvania Motorway is progressing, with traffic expected to open on the entire section by the end of 2026.
On the approximately 25 kilometers built by the Romanian contractor, physical progress has exceeded 99%. On the other contract, which includes the viaducts at Mihăiești and Nădășelu, progress has surpassed 85%, according to the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport.
At Mihăiești, the Turkish contractor has begun laying the first asphalt layer on the two-kilometer viaduct, described as the longest motorway viaduct in Romania. The concrete deck and installation of the guardrail have been completed, while waterproofing works are nearly finished on one of the bridge’s carriageways.
At Nădășelu, the pouring of the concrete deck and installation of the side curbs continue. The section built on a cantilever above the local cemetery has also been completed. Meanwhile, on the section built by the Romanian contractor, work is being carried out on service areas, slopes, fences, and overpasses.
The Nădășelu–Zimbor section will be added to the 12.24 kilometers between Zimbor and Poarta Sălajului, opened to traffic in August. Progress has also been reported on the Chiribiș–Biharia and Suplacu de Barcău–Chiribiș sections, where the authorities are aiming to open them to traffic in 2026. Estimates indicate that nearly 100 new kilometers of motorway could be inaugurated this year.
