The Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, announced that the country will increase defense spending to 4.8% of Gross Domestic Product, during a speech in the parliament in Warsaw. From a total budget of 46.6 billion euros, more than half will be dedicated to the purchase of military equipment. Sikorski emphasized the importance of a strong army to deter the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In 2025, Poland spent 4.7% of GDP on defense, a high percentage among NATO countries, which has set a target of 5% of GDP for defense and security. In comparison, Germany intends to reach 3.5% of GDP for defense only by 2029.
