Finance Minister, Alexandru Nazare: "I believe it is premature to discuss the unfreezing of pensions at this moment."

The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, emphasized that before announcing measures related to pensions, the authorities must demonstrate a significant improvement in the budgetary situation. He mentioned that Romanians are fed up with unsustainable promises and warned against salary and pension increases without adequate financial sources, which can have negative effects. In the context of the protests announced by various professional categories, Nazare explained that the freezing of salaries was a decision made in coalition to respect the deficit target for 2026. Although he acknowledged the difficulties generated by previous increases, he left open the possibility of revisiting the subject throughout the year, depending on the evolution of the budgetary situation.
