Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare said in an interview with Digi24 that he cannot guarantee taxes will not increase in 2027. He noted that the Ministry of Finance is seeking to maintain budgetary balances, but the final decision rests with the Government and Parliament.

Nazare said he does not want new taxes to be introduced, but that any government program must be backed by funding sources. The minister stressed that Romania needs a credible and sustainable budget, particularly ahead of the Fitch rating agency’s assessment scheduled for the spring.

However, the official ruled out applying a property tax calculated based on market value in 2027. He explained that this system, adopted through an ordinance in 2022, was removed from the milestones under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) to avoid the associated costs, and that next year taxes will not be determined using this method.

The statements came after Prime Minister Luca Niculescu also said he did not rule out further tax increases. The prime minister said the situation would be assessed based on fiscal and budgetary execution at the end of the year and that the authorities would try to protect vulnerable people.
