Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare told Euronews that he spoke on Tuesday with two rating agencies amid intensified monitoring of Romania’s economic and political situation. The agencies are interested in budget execution, political prospects and the authorities’ ability to maintain the country’s financial credibility.
Nazare warned that legislative initiatives without budgetary backing or those involving additional spending could complicate both the conclusion of this year and the drafting of the 2027 budget. The minister called for the political crisis to be resolved quickly, saying it is also being monitored in discussions held at the European level.
Despite the period of instability, budget execution has reportedly not derailed. After eight months, the adjustment cited by the minister stands at 1.6%, while the deficit is more than 27 billion lei lower than during the same period last year. Nazare said these figures sent a credibility signal to external partners.
The minister also announced that the budget revision would be smaller than last year’s and stated that the funding required for healthcare in October is covered. In the long term, he considers sustainable solutions necessary for financing the healthcare system.
