Hidroelectrica is consolidating its energy storage strategy through an extensive portfolio of projects, with investments of over 500 million euros.
The company's CEO, Plaveti, announced that among the ongoing projects is a 36 MW/72 MWh storage system at the Crucea Nord Wind Farm, scheduled to become operational in a few months, and another system of 64 MW/256 MWh at the Iron Gates II, planned for 2027. The company is also targeting a project in the Lower Olt Sector, with capacities of 200 MW/800 MWh. Following a difficult year for hydro production, Hidroelectrica aims to reduce dependence on hydrological conditions by integrating wind and solar sources.
The Tarnița-Lăpuștești project, with a capacity of 1,000 MW, remains a long-term priority. In the context of high electricity prices in Romania, Hidroelectrica is seeking solutions to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
In comparison, Bulgaria has significantly invested in storage capacities, having a considerable advantage over Romania.
