The Energy Company Electrica S.A. announced the obtaining of technical connection approvals to the electricity grid for 17 battery energy storage projects (BESS), with a total capacity of approximately 700 MWh. These approvals represent a crucial step in the development of the projects, confirming the technical solution for connecting to the grid and the associated conditions, thus allowing progress towards design, authorization, and execution.
This achievement marks a significant evolution of the capacity development program announced by Electrica on October 17, 2025, as part of the Electric Strategy 2030, which aims for a production of 1 GW and at least 900 MWh of storage. The General Director of Electrica, Alexandru-Aurelian Chiriță, emphasized that these projects contribute to the security and flexibility of the energy system, accelerating the integration of renewable sources. Electrica intends to put these capacities into operation by the end of 2027, thus strengthening its role in Romania's energy transition.
