Ciprian Ciucu, the new general mayor of the Capital, took the oath on December 19, 2025, and stated that the budget of Bucharest is poorly constructed, requiring urgent structural reforms. He presented a budget simulation for the next year, estimating that the minimum amount necessary for operation and debt payment is 8.5 billion lei. Ciucu emphasized that without the implementation of the referendum initiated by Nicușor Dan, the Capital's budget could decrease to 5 billion lei. The mayor highlighted the structural underfunding of PMB and called for better coordination between the General Mayor's Office and the sectors. He also mentioned that subsidies affect the budget and that he will propose structural reforms in 2026. The referendum in 2024 was supported by over 60% of voters, but it is consultative, and the authorities must decide on its implementation.
