The general mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, discussed the difficult financial situation of the City Hall, emphasizing that he is forced to decide monthly which payments can be made.
He mentioned that one of the biggest problems is related to STB, where the annual operating costs amount to approximately 1.7 billion lei, to which debts and accumulated penalties are added. Ciucu described this situation as a "black hole" that affects the city's budget, putting investments in hospitals, roads, and other public services at risk.
Additionally, the mayor promised that some construction sites in Bucharest will be closed before the new school year, explaining that these works are necessary for improving infrastructure, especially the tram lines, which have not been changed for decades.
The mayor acknowledged that the city will go through a period of discomfort, but emphasized the importance of urban regeneration for the future.
