The Moroccan federation announced that the 2030 World Cup final is expected to be played in Casablanca

The 2030 World Cup final is expected to be held in Casablanca, Morocco, according to a statement made Thursday by Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation. FIFA has not officially confirmed the venue for the decisive match, however.

“Benslimane Province will have the honor of hosting the 2030 World Cup final,” Lekjaa said at a political event held in the Moroccan town of Bouznika. Benslimane is approximately 60 kilometers from Casablanca, and the Hassan II Stadium is being built there.

The arena will have a capacity of 115,000 seats and represents an estimated investment of $12 billion. If completed according to plan, the stadium will become the world’s largest arena dedicated exclusively to football.

Morocco and Spain are competing to host the final, as FIFA has not yet finalized all the host cities. The Spanish federation maintains that the match should be held in Spain. FIFA previously denied reports that President Gianni Infantino had promised the final to Morocco.

The 2030 tournament will be hosted by six countries across three continents: Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Morocco, Portugal and Spain. The first three matches will be played in South America, while most of the games will take place in Europe and Africa.
