The French group Carrefour has decided to focus its attention on strategic countries and to sell its operations in Romania, considered a small market, representing only 3.5% of the group's total sales. Carrefour officials mentioned that the austerity measures implemented by the Bolojan government have affected the purchasing power of the population, which has led to a decrease in sales volumes. In this context, Carrefour has entered into exclusive negotiations to sell its operations in Romania to Pavăl Holding, controlled by entrepreneurs Adrian and Dragoș Pavăl, the owners of Dedeman. The transaction, valued at approximately 823 million euros, is part of a strategic review initiated by Carrefour at the beginning of 2025. Additionally, 2025 was a loss year for Carrefour in Romania, with a loss of 21 million euros.
