Threats from American President Donald Trump regarding sanctions for countries that continue to support Iran could have a significant impact on Tehran's trade network, including partners such as China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Iraq, and Pakistan.
China, the main buyer of Iranian oil, has developed an independent refining system to avoid sanctions, and by 2025, Chinese purchases are estimated at 1.38 million barrels per day. The United Arab Emirates, which provided 30% of Iranian imports, has recently suspended economic transactions with Iran. Turkey maintains trade relations of about 5-6 billion dollars annually, while Iraq relies on Iranian gas for electricity production, with trade exchanges exceeding 10 billion dollars.
Pakistan aims to increase bilateral trade with Iran to 10 billion dollars, while India has drastically reduced trade relations. American sanctions could force these countries to choose between maintaining economic relations with Iran and the risks of sanctions imposed by Washington.
