Water supplied in the municipality of Curtea de Argeș and the surrounding communes has been declared safe to drink again, after nearly a year during which it was not recommended for human consumption. The decision was made after the Argeș Public Health Directorate monitored water quality weekly and found that it had met the required parameters for one month.
On October 22, 2026, the Argeș Public Health Directorate issued the sanitary operating authorization for the public water supply system operated by Aquaterm. Starting November 1, the company will return to its previous tariff: 5.43 lei per cubic meter excluding VAT in Curtea de Argeș and 2.24 lei excluding VAT at the property boundary in the served localities.
The water was declared unsafe to drink in November 2025, after increased turbidity caused by work on the Vidraru hydropower development. Subsequent analyses indicated the presence of Clostridium perfringens and intestinal enterococci. In February 2026, a state of alert was declared, and residents received water from tanks supplied by firefighters.
Modernization work on the treatment plant in Cerbureni began in March, and water quality improved starting in June. The network serves approximately 40,000 residents.
