Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj-Napoca issued a statement defending the appointment of Professor Dacian Dragoș to the Constitutional Court of Romania, which is being challenged in court on the grounds that he does not have 18 years of experience in the legal specialty. UBB emphasizes that Dragoș has been employed by the institution since 2002, holding teaching positions as assistant, lecturer, associate professor, and full professor. Additionally, UBB expresses its disapproval of unfounded statements that undermine the authority of the Constitutional Court.
Dragoș has held various positions in the legal field and is a doctoral supervisor. The challenge against his appointment will be judged on January 16, the same day the CCR may decide on the pensions of magistrates. UBB reiterates the importance of strengthening democracy and respecting the status of the fundamental institutions of the rule of law.
