Former Justice Minister Tudorel Toader maintains that the decision of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași (UAIC) to dismiss his son, lecturer Alexandru Toader, is not final and can be challenged. The reaction was issued on Thursday, following the decision of the university’s Ethics Committee.
Tudorel Toader stated that the decision can be appealed within 30 days to the National Ethics Commission for University Management, and that its decision can subsequently be challenged in court. He said that there are “many questions” that need answers and called for equal treatment in similar situations, emphasizing the need to respect the presumption of innocence.
The UAIC Ethics Committee established that Alexandru Toader had violated university ethics and professional conduct standards by abusively using his academic position, harassment, and conditioning evaluations on sexual favors. The decision was adopted after approximately one year of investigations.
Alexandru Toader is being investigated for rape, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, and using his position for sexual purposes. He is under house arrest, after the High Court upheld his appeal against pretrial detention.
